UNB, Dhaka :Traffic Department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Friday introduced a mechanical device, ‘Protirodhok’, with a view to halting the vehicles from moving in wrong directions on the streets of the capital.Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hasan Mahmud Khandker formally inaugurated the installation of the device at Hare Road, near the state guest house Sugandha in the city.Speaking on the occasion, the IGP said the initiative will increase awareness among the people about traffic laws and play a vital role in enforcing those laws.He said the vehicles plying in wrong directions on the streets in violation of traffic rules increase the risk of fatal accidents. The introduction of the mechanical device will help bring discipline in the traffic management.Urging the city residents to comply with the traffic laws, IGP Hasan Mahmud Khandker said the device, ‘Protirodhok’, has been installed as an experimental basis.”If the initiative becomes successful, we’ll install such devices at other city streets with the help of the Dhaka City Corporations,’ he said.DMP Commissioner Benazir Ahmed and its senior officials were, among others, present on the occasion.
