Development works to protect river bank from erosion continues in Gaibandha

Development works to protect river bank from the erosion of Jamuna River at Sadar and Fulchhari upazilas of the district have been continuing since June, 2018 amid much enthusiasm to the locals.
Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) is implementing the works under the project of Protection of Different Infrastructures from the Right Bank Erosion of Jamuna River at Gaibandha Sadar and Fulchhari upazilas including Ganakabar in Gaibandha district at the cost of Taka 295.50 crore, office sources said.
Under the project, some 4.50 km river bank would be protected at four points of the upazilas. The points include Baguria, Balashighat, Ratanpur-Katlamair and Ganakabar.
Besides, 10.50 km embankment re-sectioning work would be done so that flood water could not enter the main land to damage standing crops and homesteads including roads under the project.
Apart from it, some 10.50 km dredging work would be done in the river to maintain the channel of the river under the project.
The locals are so much happy to see the development works of the project as their arable land, homesteads and other infrastructures would be saved from the river erosion through the works.
Executive engineer of BWDB Mokhlasur Rahman said the CC blocks constructing work with other development works had been progressing fast to complete the works timely.
In reply to a query, the executive engineer said the works would be completed by June, 2021, it is expected.
