Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid put emphasis on developing quality assurance mechanism for the universities of the country.”Expansion of higher education has taken place in the country in terms of quantity and the main challenge of the government is to ensure quality education,” the minister said.
Nahid made the observation on Tuesday while speaking as the chief guest at the launching ceremony of Quality Assurance Mechanism in Universities at a hotel here.
Speaking as the chief guest, Nahid said quality education and research is a must to keep pace with today’s world in the age of globalization. With Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof Dr A K Azad Chowdhury in the chair, Dr. Johannes Zutt, Country Director of the World Bank, UGC Member Prof Dr M Muhibur Rahman were present as special guests on the occasion.
Md Zahangir Alam, Project Director, Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project gave the welcome address while Prof Dr Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Head of Quality Assurance Unit, UGC, Prof Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary, Quality Assurance Specialist, gave the vote of thanks.
The minister said the number of public and private universities has increased over the years. But quality education has not been ensured at a desired level. A well functioning quality assurance system will make significant contribution to ensure quality education and push higher education in Bangladesh forward to greater heights with peoples’ confidence at national and international level.
