Researchers and experts of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) stressed taking necessary steps for the application of developed technologies at farm level to enhance the production of cattle and sheep in Bangladesh at a workshop on Wednesday.
They also emphasized for the establishment of the compatibility with the sustainability of the research based on assisted reproductive technologies to improve ruminant animal production by generating a framework of standards for the quality postgraduate study.
They were addressing the inception workshop on plan and activities of a sub-project styled, “Strengthening post-graduate research on Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs) for improved economic traits of Ruminant in the department of Surgery and Obstetrics, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh”. The sub-project is funded by Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) of University Grants Commission (UGC).
BAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Rafiqul Haque was present as chief guest with Prof Dr Md Abdus Samad, dean of Veterinary Science faculty, in the chairs.
Director of BAU Research System Prof Dr Lutful Hasan and director of planning and development and head of UAIFS Prof Md Abdur Rashid were addressed as special guests. Deputy sub-project manager Prof Dr Farida Yeasmin Bari gave the welcome address.
Dr Nasrin Sultana Juyena, manager of the sub-project, in her presentation said, the team working under the sub-project will able to develop some reproduction technologies to improve the production quality of indigenous cattle and sheep crossing with exotic breeds.
Four students will get Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree under the project as a part of improvement of postgraduate research, she added.
BAU VC said, if the research findings confined in the laboratory country would not get the profit of the research. BAU teachers should try to find the public-private collaboration with a view to help the farmers to increase the national production which may contribute in the growth of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
