UNB, Dhaka :
Criticising the mindset of ministers and MPs in undertaking development programmes prioritising their respective areas or homes, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said development plans should be taken considering the highest benefit of the common people at the low cost.
“Ministers, lawmakers and those powerful try to approve development programmes like roads or railway tracks construction beside their homes but development plans should be undertaken considering the highest benefit of the common people,” she said.
The Prime Minister said this at the 20th National Conference and 38th Council Session of the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) at IDEB Bhaban on Wednesday.
“Despite economic constraints, we could move the country forward with proper planning…we’ve reduced our dependency on others. We would stand on our own feet, ensure development of our
own not beginning from others,” she added. Urging all to work together with proper planning and sincerity for maintaining the current pace of development, the Prime Minister said, all professionals are equally important for the state and supplementary to each other.
President of the central executive committee of IDEB AKMA Hamid presided over the inaugural ceremony while general secretary Shamsur Rahman read out the secretary report ‘Amader Kotha-21’.
Hasina said, the present world has come up with huge challenges and Bangladesh needs to face those efficiently.
Stressing the importance of developing skilled manpower to drive the country towards development as well as free it from hunger, the Prime Minister said the manpower must be developed based on skills to achieve the desired goal.
Mentioning that Bangladesh’s march forward has been the heartburn of many, Sheikh Hasina said they want the country to suffer from the vicious cycle of poverty.
