Detainee dies in Narsingdi ‘shootout’ hours after arrest

A man has been killed in an alleged shootout with police in Narsingdi.
The shootout took place in the Sadar Upazila’s Shilmandi area early on Saturday, said Zakir Hasan, additional superintendent of police of Narsingdi.
The man who died in the gun battle has been identified as 28-year-old Idris, a resident of Nageshwari Upazila in Kurigram.
“Police detained a mugger named ‘Idris’ from the Ghorashal area in the district’s Palash Upazila on
Friday afternoon,” said Zakir.
“A police team took him along on a raid around 2am on Saturday to arrest his accomplices and recover some weapons. As soon as they reached Maddhya Shilmandi, his accomplices opened fire on police, triggering a gun battle with the law enforcers. Idris was killed on the spot. The others immediately fled.”
A shotgun and two bullets were recovered from the scene.
