A Dhaka court on Thursday awarded one year imprisonment to Destiny Group Chief Coordinator Mohammad Ashraful Amin in a case filed for bouncing cheque.
Judge Mohammad Abul Kashem of the 8th Additional Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka also fined him Tk 6.5 million.
The Destiny Group issued a cheque amounting to Tk 64.95 lakh on Pubali Bank Limited for making payment to some 102 journalists of the
Daily Destiny. But the cheque was bounced on August 26, 2013.
On October 10, of that year, the Daily Destiny Senior Sub-Editor Nur-e-Alam Noman Salman lodged a case with the court against Ashraful Amin.
On April 21, 2014, Metropolitan Magistrate MA Salam of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka, issued an arrest warrant against the Destiny Group boss as he had failed to appear in the court.
