Destiny Group Managing Director Md Rafiqul Amin was discharged from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) after a leaked video of his Zoom meeting from the hospital’s prison cell went viral on social media.
“The hospital authorities discharged him this afternoon. We are taking him back to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj after completing all formalities,” Inspector General of Prisons Brig Gen Md Mominur Rahman Mamun told the media.
Subhash Kumar Ghosh, senior jail super of Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj, said the Destiny MD arrived at the jail around 4:00pm.
The move came after a video clip, allegedly of Rafiqul’s recent meeting with Destiny officials and business partners, leaked and went viral on social media.
He joined the meeting from the prison cell at BSMMU.
“It’s the fifth meeting since I created the group and this meeting will continue regularly,” Rafiqul was seen telling participants of the Zoom meeting.
Rafiqul has been in jail since 2012 when he was arrested in cases filed over embezzling and laundering Tk 4,200 crore.
On Friday, prisons authorities suspended four chief prison guards and filed departmental cases against 13 others, including seven assistant chief prison guards in connection with the incident.
