Desher Pakhi (Birds of Bangladesh) is a publication of book that delivers heartwarming rhymes and dazzling illustrations. The illustrations are striking enough to make any reader want to keep the book for themselves.
The colourful, adorable rhyme book on common birds of Bangladesh is composed by talented journalist Sabuj Younus, now working as Associate Editor in the Daily Samokal. It is illustrated by DOEL publisher making perfect for the tiny bookworms to lose themselves in.
Desher Pakhi, the rhyme book, is written for a wide-age range of readers. Each and every rhyme consists of eight lines which is the very specialty of the book and it is appropriate for the kids as well as the teens.
We, who were brought-up at villages, had passed our childhood hearing the sweet sounds of the birds as there are lots of trees backyard of our native houses. In our country, there are many birds of various kinds of colours like red, green, pink, black, white, blue and so many. However, everything is changing with the passage of time. Our children pass their lives in the boundaries of four walls of our living room. They are out of reach to acquaint with various types of colourful birds.
Yunus Ali, popularly known as Sabuj Younus in the field of journalism, was born in 1967 at Sujalpur village of Jessore district. He spent his childhood enjoying the charming rural nature where birds sing sitting on the branches of trees, fly in the open blue sky, dive in the rivers those flow with murmuring sound. His mind always reminds him to the overwhelming nature of village. The ultimate goal of penning the rhyme book by Sabuj Younus who has also a beloved child – Aiyan Safwan Google – is to introduce the birds of Bangladesh with our adored children.
The rhymes on Desher Pakhi include: Bau Kotha Kao (Indian Cuckoo), Shama (White-rumped Shama), Chill (Hawk), Fingay (Black Drongo), Chatak (Jacobin Cuckoo), Khanjana (White Wagtail), Pacha (Owl), Dowel (Magpie), Ghughu (Dove), Balihas (Sand Duck), Bak (Buck), Machranga (Kingfisher), Tuntuni (Tailorbird), Tota (Parrot), Kukil (Cuckoo), Pankauri (Kormorant), Koel, Saros (Crane), Kaththokra (Woodpecker), Dhanesh (Hornbill), Babui (Weaverbird), Shalik (Starling), Myna, Mayur (Peacock), Halde Pakhi (Black-hooded Oriole), Tia (Parrot).
