Descendents of freedom fighters get scholarships

Bangladeshi meritorious students (descendents of Muktijoddhas) at higher secondary and undergraduate levels received scholarships given by the Indian government.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque handed over cheques to heirs of Muktijoddhas (freedom fighters) at a function at the Bangladesh National Museum yesterday. The function was organized jointly by the High Commission of India and the Bangladesh-India Friendship Society.
Prime Minister’s International Affairs Adviser Dr. Gowher Rizvi and a large numbers of freedom fighters, among others, attended the function.
The Indian government introduced the Muktijoddha Scholarship Scheme, back in 2006, for the descendents of Muktijoddhas (freedom fighters), a press release of High Commission of India said yesterday.
The scholarships are awarded to higher secondary and under graduate students. Under graduate students get Taka 24,000 per year for four years and higher secondary students get taka 10,000 per year for two years.
Till date more than 9,500 students have benefited and more than Taka 13 crores has been disbursed to the students.
