The bridge built over Derai canal of Sunamganj has become a death trap. Some parts of the bridge have been broken, dropped welding. Every day, small, big accidents occur. Thousands of people from Karimpur UP of Upazila are in trouble.
Khalu Mia Sardar of Sakitpur village said, ‘We have informed UP chairman and LGED Department multiple times for the bridge repair. So far no steps have been taken to reform or rebuild. Hundreds of people are taking risks every day. If the bridge is not reformed, then a big accident can occur at any time.’
Karimpur UP chairman Asab Uddin Sardar said that the bridge has been constructed almost 50 years ago. ‘Now the situation is quite delicate due to not being reformed for a long time. We will talk with the UNO and the Upazila Engineer for the rebuilding of the bridge. They promised to take necessary measures,’ he said.
