A Deputy Secretary to the Ministry of Labour and Employment was found dead at Bailey Road Officer’s residence in the capital.
The deceased was identified as Md Abdul Quader Chowdhury, 58, who lived on the third floor of the building named ‘Bailey Square’.
Police recovered his body early Thursday, said SM Shamim, Senior Assistant Commissioner (AC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Ministry officials contacted the police after Quader Chowdhury remained absent at his work for a week, the police official said.
Neighbours also contacted the police after the stench of a decomposing body came from the apartment. He was found dead in bed when police entered the apartment breaking its door, the AC said.
He was found in formal clothes and shoes. Some medicines were found scattered across the bed. “We believe he died few days back as the body already began to decompose,” said SM Shamim.
Quader went to work on February 26 for the last time. He lived alone in that apartment.
“We came to know that he was not in touch with his family for a long time,” said a police official.
Eunus Molla, sub-inspector of Ramna police station, recovered the body from a government staff quarter of Bailey Road area around 5:00pm on Wednesday and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examinations, said Bachhu Mia, in charge of DMCH police outpost.
The reason behind his death is yet to be known.
