Staff Correspondent: Khandker M Talha, Deputy High-Commissioner at Bangladesh Mission in London, has been withdrawn for negligence of duty during the attack on the mission by BNP activists on February 7.
Talha has been asked to leave the office on May 7, return to Dhaka and join the foreign ministry. He was the acting high commissioner on the day of attack by BNP men who also vandalised the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the mission.
The government has also formed a high-profile committee to investigate the incident. Bangladesh High Commission in
London confirmed it on Thursday night.
Masud Bin Momen, Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, will head the committee, comprising representatives from the Prime Minister’s office (PMO) and Foreign Ministry. The committee will start its investigation next month.
Following the formation of the investigation committee, panic gripped the BNP leaders and activists who were involved in the attack on the embassy on February 7.
They include Swechchasebok Dal leader Nasir Ahmed Shahin, Jahangir Alam Shimu, Jubo Dal leader Abdur Rohim, Joint secretary of UK, BNP Shahidul Islam Mamun , former student leader Maulana Shamim, Mahboob Ali Khansur, Masum Billah, Istiaq Mahboob, Abdur Rahim, Ali Shahajada, Mohammad Tarequl Islam, Muhammad Masud Bin Farid, Md Tarek Aziz Roman, Md Mahbubur Rahman, SM Omar Parvez, SK Nasir Uddin, Anowar Parvez Talukder, Rakibe Hasan, Jobayer Islam, Nausin Moshtary Mia Saheb, Muhammad Abdul Goni and Arif Moynul Hussain.
Deputy High-Commissioner Talha was withdrawn following a meeting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with the UK unit of Awami League in London on April 22.
After staging a protest programme on the premises of Bangladesh High Commission in London on February 7, leaders and activists of BNP attacked the High Commission centring the verdict in the graft case against Khaleda Zia.
They forcefully entered the High Commission, assaulted its employees and vandalised some valuables.
