Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal of Feni yesterday (Tuesday), on the 14th day, recorded the depositions of witnesses Maulana Nurul Afsar Faruqui, Secretary of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa Examination Centre and two students of the Madrasa-Tanjina Begum Sathi and Bibi Zaheda Begum

Judge M Mamunur Rashid of the tribunal recorded their depositions while the defence lawyers cross-examined them. Their cross-examination continued from 11 am to 5 pm. Meanwhile, the 16 accused were produced in the court amidst tight security to avoid any untoward incident. So far, 18 witnesses testified in the case.
Earlier, on Monday, Maulana Md Hosain, Principal-in-Charge of the madrasa, local municipality Ward Counsellor Mohammad Yasin and ambulance driver Nurul Karim testified in the case filed for the murder of madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
While testifying on Monday, Maulana Md Hosain told the court that ‘Nusrat was a protestant student of the madrasa and she was an un-compromising girl also. On March 27, Principal Siraj sexually assaulted her while Nusrat protested and her family guardian took legal action against the assault. There were big pressure on Nusrat to withdraw the case.’
While, witness Md Yasin said two years ago, accused Nur Uddin had given a proposal of love to Nusrat, but she refused it. Later, he threw lime water in her eyes, he added.
Earlier, the first witness and complainant of the case Mahmudul Hasan Noman, who is the elder brother of slain Nusrat started testifying in the case on June 27, that ended on June 30. Later among others, the court recorded the depositions of two witnesses and they are Nusrat’s classmates- Nishat Sultana and Nasrin Sultana Furti. While testifying in the court, Furti said that suspended Principal Siraj tried to violate her and many other girls.
Earlier, on May 29, the PBI pressed charges against 16 persons including prime accused Siraj-Ud Daula, the Principal of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa and Awami League leader Ruhul Amin over the killing of Nusrat. The PBI pressed charges dropping the names of five persons, out of the total 21 accused of the case. They submitted an 808-page chargesheet in the court of Magistrate Jakir Hossain.
Of the 16 accused, 12 have already given their confessional statements in the magistrate courts. Other accused persons are- Nur Uddin, 20, Shahdat Hossain Shamim, 20, Maksud Alam alias Moksud 50, Saifur Rahman Mohammad Jobayer, 21, Jabed Hossain alias Sakhawat Hossain Jaber,19, Hafez Abdul Kader, 25, Afsar Uddin,33, Kamrun Nahar Moni, 19, Umme Sultana Popy alias Tuhin alias Shampa alias Champa,19, Abdur Rahim Sharif, 20, Iftekhar Uddin Rana, 22, Imran Hossain alias Mamun, 22, Mohammad Shamim, 20 and Mohiuddin Shakil,20.
On April 6, Nusrat Jahan Rafi, 18, was set afire on the roof of an examination centre of Alim examination allegedly by students loyal to Principal Siraj Ud Doula of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa after he was arrested and subsequently suspended for sexually harassing Nusrat. She was an Alim examinee of the Madrasha.
After fighting for her life for five days, Nusrat succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital on the night of April 10, five days after the heinous incident.
