Rakib murder: Depositions of witness end

A Khulna court has almost completed witness depositions in a case filed over the killing of 12-year boy Rakib here after torture by his former employer over quitting his job on August 3.
Thirty-five of 40 charge-sheeted accused in the case have given their depositions before the court of Metropolitan Sessions Judge Dilruba Sultana, said Advocate Mominul Islam, lawyer of the plaintiff adding that sub-inspector of Khulna Police Station Kazi Mostak Ahmed, who is also the investigation officer of the case, gave his deposition before the court on Sunday last.
Prosecution lawyer Sultana Rahman Shilpi said the witness deposition of the case has been satisfactory and will end by this week. She also added that if the witness deposition is completed by this month the court may hand down the verdict any day in November.
On August 3, Rakib, who used to work at a motorcycle garage at Tutpara Central Road in Khulna city, was tortured to death allegedly by his former employer over quitting job.
Alam Haldar, victim’s father, filed a case with Sadar Police Station against three people-Sharif, Mintu and Beauty Begum-after the brutal killing.
Later, Mintu Khan, a so-called uncle of M Omar Sharif, the prime accused in the Rakib killing case, reportedly confessed to his crime before a local court on August 13 while Sharif made his confessional statement on August 12 and his mother Beauty Begum, also an accused in the case, confessed to her involvement in the incident on August 6.
