SB Officer killing: Depositions of 7 witnesses recorded

A Dhaka court yesterday (Monday) recorded the depositions of seven witnesses in the Police Officer and his wife murder case.
Dhaka’s Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Jahurul Haque recorded the depositions of seven witnesses and fixed September 23 to record the depositions of other witnesses in the sensational case filed in connection with the killing of Special Branch (SB) Police Officer Mahfuzur
Rahman and his wife Swapna Rahman. Accused Oishee Rahman, only daughter of the couple and Oishee’s two friends Asaduzzaman Joy and Mizanur Rahman Rony were produced in the court on the occasion.
On Monday, prosecution witnesses Md Abdul Motaleb (guard), physician Ali Mansur, Police constables Md Taslim Uddin and Md Mojibur Rahman, Imam Ali Sheikh, Rabiul Alam and Soleman testified in the courtroom.
Public Prosecutor Shah Alam Talukder questioned the witnesses, while on behalf of the defense advocates Faruque Ahmed and Masud Rana cross-examined them. Of the 51 witnesses, so far 22 testified.
On August 18 last year, police recovered the decomposed bodies of SB Inspector Mahfuz and his wife Swapna from their Chamelibagh residence in the capital.
Later, their daughter Oishee surrendered to the police confessing her involvement in the killing. Police also arrested her two friends Jony and Rony, and the couple’s domestic help Khadiza Akhter Sumi in connection with the murder.
Besides, on August 24 last year, Oishee made confessional statement to a Dhaka court admitting her involvement in the murder.
Abul Khayer, Inspector of Dhaka Metropolitan DB Police, submitted the charge sheet against the accused in March this year. Later, on May 6, the court framed charge against the accused.
