Nusrat murder hearing: Deposition of witness Mostafa recorded

Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal of Feni yesterday (Thursday) recorded the depositions of witness Md Mostafa, a night guard of Sonagazi Fazil Madrasa in the case filed over the murder of madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
Judge M Mamunur Rashid of the tribunal recorded his depositions while the defence lawyers cross-examined him. Later, the court fixed July 7 to record the deposition of kerosene seller Jasim Uddin, Borka seller Liton and shop employee Helal Uddin Farhad.
On Thursday at 11 am, the 16 accused including prime accused Siraj-Ud-Daula, Awami League leader Ruhul Amin and Commissioner Maksud were produced in the court amidst tight security, while the hearing started at 11.30 am. Later, on completion of recording the deposition of witness Md Mostafa and his cross-examination, the accused were taken to the jail.  
Earlier, the first witness and complainant of the case Mahmudul Hasan Noman, who is the elder brother of slain Nusrat started testifying in the case on June 27, that ended on June 30. On Monday, last the court recorded the depositions of two witnesses. They are Nusrat’s classmates- Nishat Sultana and Nasrin Sultana Furti. However, cross-examination of Furti was completed on Wednesday. The defence lawyers cross-examined Nishat on Monday. Later, four lawyers of the accused cross-examined Furti. Twelve more lawyers of the accused cross-examined her on Tuesday. While testifying in the court on Monday Furti said that Principal Siraj tried to violate her and many other girls.  
Of the 92 witnesses, four were so far produced in the court to record their depositions in the case. They are complainant Mahmudul Hasan Noman, Nusrat’s classmates Nishat Sultana and Nasrin Sultana Furti, and peon Nurul Amin.
Earlier, on May 29, the PBI pressed charges against 16 persons including prime accused Siraj-Ud Daula, the principal of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa and Awami League leader Ruhul Amin over the killing of Nusrat. The PBI pressed charges dropping the names of five persons, out of the total 21 accused of the case. They submitted an 808-page charge sheet in the court of Magistrate Jakir Hossain.
Of the 16 accused, 12 have already given their confessional statements in the magistrate courts. Other accused persons are- Nur Uddin, 20, Shahdat Hossain Shamim, 20, Maksud Alam alias Moksud Al councilor,50, Saifur Rahman Mohammad Jobayer, 21, Jabed Hossain alias Sakhwat Hossain Jaber,19, Hafez Abdul Kader, 25, Afsar Uddin,33, Kamrun Nahar Moni, 19, Umme Sultana Popy alias Tuhin alias Shampa alias Champa,19, Abdur Rahim Sharif, 20, Eftekhar Uddin Rana, 22, Imran Hossain alias Mamun, 22, Mohammad Shamim, 20 and Mohiuddin Shakil,20.
On April 6, Nusrat Jahan Rafi, 18, was set afire at an examination centre of Alim examination allegedly by students loyal to Principal Siraj Ud Doula of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa after he was arrested and subsequently suspended as Rafi had accused him of sexually harassing her.
After fighting for her life for five days, Nusrat succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital on the night of April 10, five days after the heinous incident.
