Deposition against Papia, husband begins

Recording the deposition of witnessses in arms case filed against expelled Bangladesh Awami Jubo Mohila League leader Shamima Nur Papia and her husband Mofizur Rahman Sumon was completed for the second on Tuesday.
Metropolitan Sessions’ Judge of Dhaka KM Imrul Kayes yesterday recorded the depositions of RAB Sub-Inspector Saiful Alam. Later, the defence lawyers cross-examined him and complainant Shafiqul Islam. Earlier on August 24, the same court framed charges of the case in presence of two accused. Of
the 12 prosecution witnesses, two so far testified in the case. It has been decided that recording the depositions will continue serially.
On June 29, RAB Sub-Inspector Arifuzzaman, who is also the Iinvestigation Officer (IO) of the case, filed the charge-sheet against the couple, making 12 people witnesses in the case.
Earlier on 22 February, a team of RAB arrested Papia and her husband, along with two of their cohorts, from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with counterfeit banknotes, foreign currencies and cash, seven passports, and seven mobile phones.
