The Department of Japanese Studies, University of Dhaka organized a press conference via zoom to disseminate information on the upcoming two-day long International e-Conference on ‘Japanology in New Era’ to be held on 28-29 January, 2021. Chairman of the Department Dr. Abdullah-Al-Mamun briefed the reporters regarding the grand event.
Dr. Mamun informed the journalists that Department of Japanese Studies, University of Dhaka, is organizing a two day long International e-Conference on ‘Japanology in New Era’ which will be held on January 28, 2021 via zoom.
The Inaugural Session of the two day long International e-Conference on ‘Japanology in New Era’ will be held on January 28, 2021 at 6.00 pm (Bangladesh time).
The conference is organized to celebrate the 100 Years of the University of Dhaka where scholars from fifteen countries will present papers in sixteen sessions. The countries are- Bangladesh, USA, UK, Japan, Australia, UAE, India, Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia. Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Singapore. The paper presenters are from 37 universities and 7 research institutes.
Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Vice Chancellor, University of Dhaka, has kindly consented to grace the Inaugural Session as Chief Guest. His Excellency Mr. Naoki Ito, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Bangladesh, has agreed to join as Special Guest. The Inaugural Session of the Conference will be presided over by Professor Dr. Abul Barkat, Founder Chairman, Department of Japanese Studies, University of Dhaka.
In the Closing Session, the Chief Guest is Professor Dr. A.S.M. Maksud Kamal, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic), Special Guests are Professor Dr. Sadeka Halim, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Minister Hiroyuki Yamaya, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh. This Session would be chaired by Dr. Abdullah-Al-Mamun, Chairman, department of Japanese Studies, University of Dhaka.
The conference aims to bring scholars to engage in discussion, learn from each other and understand current dynamics of Japanology and option and opportunities for future research. Dr. Mamun informed the journalists that the objectives of the Department of Japanese Studies to organize this conference are-a facilitate research and academic exercise on Japanese Studies, networking as this is a new department, understand post-COVID dynamics of Japanese Studies, helps students learn from famous and season scholars, and learn from Japanese experience and implement the knowledge for the wellbeing of Bangladesh.
A very lively Q & A session took place after the briefing of Dr. Abdullah-Al-mamun where journalists asked very significant questions to different Panel Chairs and Paper Presenters of the e-Conference.
A number of paper presenters and Chairs of sessions were present in the press conference. Among them the notable scholars are – Dr. Mohammad Aminul Karim, Professor at the School of Business at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB); Dr. Saikaew Thipakorn, Director, Japan-ASEAN Studies Center, Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand; Dr. Christopher Born, Japanese and Asian Studies, Belmont University, USA; Professor Ashok Kumar Chawla, Advisor (Japan), East Asia Division, Ministry of External Affairs, India (TBC), John West, Adjunct Professor Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan and Dr. Rajaram Panda, Chair Professor, Reitaku University, Japan.
