Bangladesh signed an agreement with Denmark under which the Danish government will provide DKK 50 million or Taka 65 crore to Bangladesh for the hosting communities in the face of forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals.
An agreement to this end titled ‘Amendment to the agreement between the Kingdom of Denmark and government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh regarding Bangladesh Country Programme’ was signed on Thursday at the NEC-II conference room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area, said a press release. Additional Secretary to the Economic Relations Division (ERD) Sultana Afroz and Danish Ambassador to Dhaka Winnie Estrup Petersen signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.
The release said the additional financial support of DKK 50 million will be utilized for the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals hosting communities in Cox’s Bazaar.
High officials of the ERD and the Danish embassy were present on the occasion.
