The situation of dengue is gradually taking an alarming shape in the country. The number of cases and deaths is increasing every day.
Bangladesh recorded 360 more infections in the last 24 hours. This is the highest number of dengue patients admitted to hospital in a single day this year. During this time, one more person died due to dengue. With this, the death toll from dengue has reached 33.It is learnt that 10 people died in the first week of September.
The City Corporation has stepped into the field to deal with the situation.
As the part of initiatives, About10 mobile courts of the City Corporation have already entered the field from Sunday to control the situation.
DNCC has announced a fine if Aedes larvae are found during raids.
On Saturday, Mayor of Dhaka North Atiqul Islam went to Dakshin Khan area in a program to sensitize the city dwellers and sought the help of the city dwellers in preventing dengue. Aedes larvae were later found on inspection of a building under construction. Several people around the building have already been infected with dengue. The owner of the building was fined one taka lakh for finding larvae.
Later raids were conducted in Nikunj, an elite area of the capital.
Aedes larvae were found in two houses. A regular case was filed as the owner of the house was not found.
Dhaka South City Corporation has also announced to conduct raids through mobile courts in various wards to kill Aedes.
Meanwhile, the number of dengue patients is increasing in Mymensingh Medical. Most of the victims returned to Dhaka. A month ago, the number of dengue patients in Mymensingh Medical Center was negligible, but the number of patients increased within a week.
Professor Dr. Kabirul Bashar, an entomologist of Jahangirnagar University, told the New Nation that the number of dengue patients have been increasing in the capital as the September is called one of the highest
pick months for the dengue outbreak. When asked what is reason behind the increase of dengue outbreak despite both City Corporations are working to control the outburst, Dr. Bashar said that the both authorities are working well to control the outbreak undoubtedly. But fact is that they are not following the proper way or method to kill the mosquitoes.
Authorities have to take lesson from the previous experience. Otherwise just showoff never can bring the good result, he said.
Is the insecticide ineffective? Dr. Bashar said that actually there are two types of way to kill the mosquitoes. One is Adulticide which insecticides used by mosquito control programs to kill adult mosquitoes.
Meanwhile, Larvicides are a type of insecticide used to control mosquitoes which work by killing mosquito larvae and pupae before they can grow into biting adults. I think Larvicides are more effective to Adulticide to destroy the source of mosquito’s larvae, Dr. Bashar added.
