DSCC crash prog to eradicate mosquito: Dengue patients on rise

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon on Monday said that the numbers of dengue-affected patients are on the rise this year comparing the last two or three years but there is no reason to get panicked.
The DSCC mayor said it while speaking at the inauguration of a crash programme on identifying the larvae of Aedes mosquitoes and its eradication steps at Eskaton area in the city.
The programme will continue for 15 days in the DSCC’s 57 wards.
The mayor said that the situations is under control as the DSCC has destroyed Aedes mosquitoes breeding centers from 15 thousand homes in the first phases and more 17 thousands homes in the second phases of mosquitoes elimination programmes this year.
He said also that there are no so Chikungunya cases as like last year.
He requested citizens to raise awareness by removing abandoned tires, flower tubs, stored air conditioner water and other abandoned containers from their homes.
The mayor also instructed everyone not to allow water to be stored at a specific places or containers for more than five days.
He said such storage of water may increase the risk of Aedes mosquito breeding in the city. DSCC Secretary Shahabuddin Khan, Chief Health Officer Sheikh Salahuddin, local councilor Kamruzzaman Kajol, Hasibur Rahman Manik among others, were present.
