A total of 1,072 people have so far been admitted to different hospitals across the country, including the capital city, with Aedes mosquito-borne dengue fever. Of these, 1,025 were admitted in 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka city and 47 are admitted in various hospitals outside Dhaka.
Sources in the Health Emergency Operations Center and Control Room of the Department of Health said on Wednesday.
According to the source, 264 new dengue patients were admitted to the hospital in the last 24 hours.
Among them, 248 new dengue patients were admitted to various governments, autonomous and private hospital clinics in the capital city and 16 new dengue patients to hospitals outside Dhaka.
A total number of 3,446 patients were admitted to the hospital from January 1 to August 2 this year. Already 2,370 patients have returned home after recovery. On the other hand, four suspected dengue deaths were referred to the IEDCR’s Dengue Death Review Committee for review.
However, awareness campaign has been going on in the capital for a week to prevent the spread of dengue. Two city mayors, local MPs and ward councilors are involved.
The mayor called upon all the citizens to work in unity in the awareness campaign in Bhatara area under DNCC.
Meanwhile, the mayor of Dhaka South has found a large number of larvae by conducting raids in residential areas allotted for government employees. Mayor Taposh expressed concern over the indifference of the conscious citizens.
It is learned that the government is considering separate hospitals for the dengue patients. According to the health minister, the authorities have primarily identified several hospitals to treat dengue patients.
The selected hospitals include Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital in Tongi, Lalkuthi Hospital, Railway Hospital, and several others.
In 2000, about 93 people died when the tropical fever was reported for the first time in Bangladesh.
Even though the country learned to deal with it better, 2018 saw one of the biggest surges in dengue ever since.
It is mentionable that dengue is on the rise in the capital city with corona epidemic. As a result most of the city dwellers are in serious panic realizing the gravity of the situation.
