The number of dengue patients is rising alarmingly in the country amid the surge of deadly Coronavirus. About 1,307 patients have been infected with dengue until 25 July.
Moreover, at least 105 people with dengue fever were admitted to hospitals across the country in 24 hours till 8 am on Sunday, registering the single-day highest of this year.
Suspected three dead patients’ samples have been sent to Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) for test. However, no casualty had been recorded this year yet.
On the other hand, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said dengue fever has triggered fear amid the surge of Covid-19 pandemic. The government is planning to set-up separate hospitals for treatment of dengue patients, considering the increasing number of dengue cases amid the Covid-19 pandemic.In this regard, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said, dengue fever has triggered fear amid the surge of Covid-19 pandemic, as every day the number of dengue patients is on the rise.
The minister passed the remarks after visiting the 1,000-bed field hospital for Covid-19 patients at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Sunday.
“Many dengue patients are at risk of Covid-19 infection in hospitals; considering this situation, the government is planning to have specific hospitals for dengue patients.”, he said.
A total of 1,679 patients had been diagnosed so far with dengue this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Of the total infected, 47 are from outside Dhaka.
Two hundred and seventy-two patients were infected in June, and 43 infections were detected in May.
Though most of the patients who were hospitalised have so far been released while 460 of them are still undergoing treatment in the hospitals in Dhaka, and six outside the capital, the DGHS data shows.
Earlier, another 104 and 85 dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals on Saturday and Friday respectively while currently 460 dengue patients are taking treatment in the city hospitals.
Since January this year, a total of 1,574 dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals and three died, according to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
Meanwhile, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) have been operating anti-mosquito drives and mobile courts to destroy breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitos.
