Dengue cases on rise

Staff Reporter: Dengue cases are on rise across the country in the first week of the New Year, according to the government’s office of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
In a latest data of the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) showed that 21 people have been hospitalised with dengue-related fever across the country in the last 24 hours.
The data also has shown that 19 new patients were admitted in Dhaka and two others outside the capital till 8am on Saturday (January 4).
According to DGHS, as many as 17 new patients were hospitalised with dengue on January 2.
The incidents of rising the dengue patients are found after witnessing the worst outbreak of the disease in 2019.
The number of patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals in the country was 43, including 36 in the capital as per the data of the DGHS.
About 101,344 dengue fever infected people were hospitalised in 2019.
Of them, 101,018 were discharged from hospitals after treatment.
The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research confirmed 148 deaths caused by dengue in the year (2019).
