Though the number of dengue patients has decreased in the capital, such cases still more in different districts outside Dhaka, raising a fresh concern over prevention of the mosquito-borne disease.
According to Directorate General of Health Services, a total of 4,158 cases were reported from across the country in the last five days. Of them, 1,821 cases were reported from different districts and 2,337 in capital Dhaka.
Three more persons died of dengue fever on Thursday across the country.
On Thursday, a total of 788 dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals in the country. Among them, 331 patients were admitted in Dhaka and 457 in different districts outside the capital.
A nurse from Manikganj, who was diagnosed with dengue, died at a private hospital in Dhaka yesterday, according to family sources.
Chameli Begum, 28, was a nurse at Momtaz Eye Hospital in Manikganj and also a mother of a 27-day-old infant, said her elder brother Md Anowar Hosain. She was admitted to 250-seat district hospital in Manikganj on August 29 after tests confirmed she was suffering from dengue fever.
After five days, she was shifted to a private hospital in Dhaka, said Dr Manobendra Sharkar, in-charge of the dengue ward at the hospital.
She breathed her last around 10:00am at the hospital in Dhaka’s Moghbazar area, her brother said.
A 5-year old girl died of dengue at Khulna Medical College Hospital on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Srabonti, daughter of Md Sohag of Bagherpara Upazila in Jashore.
Dr Shoilendra Biswas, resident medical officer of KMCH, said Srabonti was admitted to the hospital on August 31 with dengue fever.
She breathed her last at 3:20 pm while undergoing treatment at Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.
So far, nine people died of the mosquito-borne disease in Khulna after the recent outbreak.
Another died of dengue in Santhia upazila of Pabna district. Bipasha Pal, 12, died on Thursday morning.
Bipasha Pal was the daughter of Anand Pal of Ganghati village of the upazila and a sixth grader at Haji Jasim Uddin High School and College in Miapur.
Abu Saeed, assistant head teacher at the school branch of Haji Jasimuddin High School and College, Miapur confirmed the death.
The Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room at the DGHS, in a press release issued on Thursday, said that the number of patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals in the country are 3,371.
A total of 57 dengue patients have died across Bangladesh from January 1 till September 5, according to their own collected data. However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be at 132, so far.
As many as 1,729 patients are currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas 1,642 people are undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, the DGHS data said.
Since January 1 till September 5, a total of 74,753 people have been affected by dengue.
Among those admitted, a total of 70,790 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
