Demonstration for reopening of JU

Hundreds of Jahangirnagar University (JU) students have staged a protest march on the campus on Wednesday demanding the reopening of the university by September 30.
On 12.00pm this day, the procession started from the new arts faculty of the university which ended with a short rally at the new registrar building after parading various roads of the campus.
While addressing the rally, Shovon Rahman, convener of the Socialist Student Front JU unit said, ‘The promise of reopening universities was breaking since last March showing the cause of vaccination. However, the government have reopened the educational activities for the students who were not vaccinated yet.’
‘So, reopening of universities after inoculating university students is just stuck in other issues’, he added.
Conducted by the general secretary of the university unit of Socialist Student Front Abu Sayeid, general secretary of the JU unit of Bangladesh Students Union Rakibul Rony, a Masters student of the university’s history department Nuruzzaman Shuvo spoke on the program among others.
The protesters also warned for a tougher movement at the program unless their all demands were met.
Later, the protesting students placed a three point demands and submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor.
The three-point demands are, announcing reopening date of the university within 22 September, reopening the campus by September 30 and installing vaccination booth at the university’s medical Centre.
