All the illegal structures alongside the Adi channel of the river Buriganga will be demolished.
During a sudden visit, the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Fazle Noor Tapsosh directed the authority concerned on Wednesday.
Bangladesh Water Development Board, Dhaka district administration and DSCC have jointly conducted demarcation activities in a view to reclaiming the Buriganga Adi channel.
As part of the activities, the DSCC mayor went to Kalunagar sluice gate area to inspect the demarcation activities physically.
During his visit, he saw that a 10-storey building’s shear wall had been constructed grabbing the part of the canal and he
instantly directed the officials concerned to demolish it immediately.
Mayor Taposh also expressed his wonder seeing the wall on the canal.
“They erected shear wall on the canal and it can’t be. The building owner must vacate the canal and then he or she will construct the building. Bring the equipments and demolish it at once,” Mayor Taposh directed the department concerned.
He wanted to know the width of the canal and officials concerned informed him that the width is 315 feet.
He then directed the officials concerned to evict and demolish all the illegal structures including building that built grabbing the channel’s land.
Among others, DSCC secretary Akramuzzaman, Chief Estate Officer Russel Sabrin, Superintendent Engineer Khairul Baker, Councilors Md Mokaddes Hossain Zahid (Ward No-24), Noor-e Alam (Ward No-55) and Nilufer Rahman (Reserve) accompanied the Mayor during visit.
