BSS, Dhaka :
Awami League Advisory Council member Suranjit Sengupta on Monday said it is proved that international terrorism has spread in the country taking the responsibility of killing blogger Avijit by Al-Qaeda.
“International terrorist outfit Al-Qaeda took responsibility of the killing of bloggers including Avijit. The communal political forces have forged alliance with all sorts of terrorism. So, all the secular democratic forces should be united in the mission for containing terrorism,” he said.
Suranjit Sengupta, also a senior parliamentarian of the ruling Awami League (AL), said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion in the city.
Bangabandhu Academy organised the discussion on current politics at the auditorium of the Institution of Diploma Engineers at Kakrail in the city with its adviser Dr Khondokar Enamul Huq in the chair.
Awami League presidium member Satish Chandra Roy, Dhaka City AL Vice-President Faezuddin Miah and Bangabandhu Academy’s Secretary General Humayun Kabir Mizi were the discussants, among others.
Commenting that it would be a futile exercise to contain terrorism keeping Jamaat in democratic politics, Suranjit Sengupta said, “Bangladesh has now entered into the network of Al-Qaeda. Secular democratic politics is the only way to face it. Even the United States should have to realise now that the international terrorism has entered the national terrorism.”
The senior Awami League leader said, “Khaleda Zia’s politics has now lost ways with the persuasion of fruitless politics and her almost shattered organisation. It would be a barrier for BNP to get back to democratic politics by keeping relations with Jamaat.”
Suranjit Sengupta said, “It’s the right time for the government to take initiative to protect politics. So, the government should be more tough and stringent for the sake of continuation of the pace of development. Tough and solid decisions should have to be taken for continuation of democratic and constitutional process in the country. There’s no scope for compromise in this regard.”
Pointing at BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, the senior AL leader said, “You have instructed leaders-activists of your party to remain vigilant in the field of election taking to the field in anyway and then you disappeared from the scene. If Sheikh Hasina had instructed her party workers in such a way, many of them would have taken to the streets risking even their lives. But, none responded to your call.”
