Democracy now imprisoned in country, says Emazuddin

Former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Emazuddin Ahmed said democracy in the country is now imprisoned.
He said democracy is in prison. The government felt that the largest opposition party would be in total disarray when Begum Zia would be sent to jail. But now BNP is the most united party.
He suggested BNP not to be in hurry, it should address to peaceful and people participatory movement will which being success to restore democracy in the country again.
Speaking as the chief guest in a discussion titled Ziaur Rahman and present Bangladesh on Saturday evening, held at a restaurant in Mir Maidan area of Sylhet city, Emazuddin said it. It was organized on the occasion of the Liberation and National Day, by a social body named ‘Public Voice-Working for Bangladesh’.
Terming BNP founder former President Ziaur Rahman as the initiator of Bangladesh’s development, Emazuddin said Zia did not voluntarily take charge of the country on 7 November 1975. He was put in charge. After taking responsibility Ziaur Rahman started green revolution in the country.
He said, those who are telling that the country is floating in the tide of development, they will have to take the name of Zia, who started the development of the country.
Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury, President of Dhaka Union of Journalists Union (DUJ) President Abdul Hye Shikder and General Secretary Jahangir Alam Pradhan, President of Jasas Prof Mamun Ahmed among other spoke in the function.
