Staff Reporter :BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has said that the democracy in Bangladesh is no more. The democratic tradition and institutions have been destroyed. The rights of people of all classes and professions, and labourers are not secured anymore, she also said.  The BNP chief said these in a message issued on Thursday on the occasion of ‘May Day 2015’. The statement was signed by BNP’s International Affairs Secretary Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon, also current spokesman of the party. Khaleda Zia greeted the working people of Bangladesh and whole world and wished their peace, progress and success in every field on the eve of the day. She paid homage to those working people who struggled and sacrificed their lives in 1886 to establish the rights of the working class. She also remembered the victims of Rana Plaza tragedy and the tragedy of Tazrin Fashion, and prayed for salvation of the victims. The working people of the country are deprived of rights, she said. The BNP Chairperson called upon the working people to take part in the struggle of restoring an equity-based democratic society where liberty, equality and fraternity prevail. The rights of the working people and other professions can’t be established without a democratic society, she said. Recalling the contributions of late President Ziaur Rahman in establishing the rights of working people, she said that Ziaur Rahman had introduced himself as one of working people. “The BNP thinks about working people. We will continue our efforts for the welfare of the working people,” she said.
