Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar inaugurating Smart Card distribution in Barisal City Corporation area on Sunday said democracy could not be sustainable without free fair election. It could never be established that free fair election would not be possible in such a country which was liberated in lieu of 3 million martyrs.
Barisal regional election office organised this programme at Amrita Lal Dey auditorium of Barisal Club presided over by Dr. Gazi Muhammad Saifuzzaman, deputy commissioner of Barisal.
Among others Jebunnessa Afroj, AL lawmaker, Ahsan Habib Kamal, BCC Mayor, Brig. Gn. Saidul Islam, director general of NID Smart Card, Nurul Alam, additional commissioner, SM Ruhul Amin, Barisal Metropolitan Police commissioner, S M Aktaruzzaman, district police superintendent, attended the programme.
EC Mahbub Talukdar as chief guest of the programme further said next general election would be very much important for all of home and abroad. We do not need any foreign certificate. We will try our best to hold next election as free, fair, and non controversial and acceptable for all to maintain our own prestige. EC preparing a roadmap will exchange views with political parties, intellectuals, cross section of people to conduct the election on a level playing field. Election rules, boundary of constituencies would also be reformed, the EC told.
About smart card of NID, the Election Commissioner said it also very important for national safety and security.
