20-party meet held: Demo against gas price hike likely

BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia held an emergency meeting with the leaders of her party-led the 20-party alliance on Sunday evening at her Gulshan office in the city.

 Jamaat-e-Islami, Fazle Rabbi Chowdhury of a faction of Jatiya Party, Moulana Mohammad Ishaue of Khelafat Majlish, Barrister Andalib Rahman Pertha of Bangladesh Jatiya Party, Maulana Abdul Latif Nejami of Islami Oikya Jote, Shafiul Alam Prodhan of Jatiya Ganotantrik Party, Major General (retd) Ibrahim Bir Pratik of Bangladesh Kalyan Party, AH Kamruzzaman of Muslim League, Jebel Rahman Ghaani of Bangladesh NAP, Khandaker Golam Mortuza of National Democratic Party and Dr Mostafizur Rahman Iran of Bangladesh Labour Party attended the meeting.  
The meeting sources said that the 20-party leaders discussed the country’s latest political situation of the country and strategy of their next course of action. The issue of price hike in gas and power tariff was also discussed.
Sources said that the 20-party leaders agreed with holding street programme against the price hike of gas and power. Some leaders proposed for calling hartal on the issue. However, they did not take final decision. A 20-party leader said that the alliance would announce programme today (Monday) through a press conference.
