District chapter of National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources, Power and Port staged a demonstration in the district town on Friday demanding that the Rampal power plant project near the Sundarbans be scrapped soon.
Committee members also held a protest rally on the Poura Adhunik Supermarket premises to press for their demand. Prof Abdun Nur, convener of the district unit national committee, presided over the programme.
Speakers urged the government to take steps to cancel the Rampal power plant near the world’s largest mangrove forest.
