The taskforce of Dhaka South City Corporation on Tuesday snapped utility connections from 18 holdings in old Dhaka after finding inflammable chemicals and raw materials at plastic factories amid traders protests.
The taskforce so far disconnected utility services from 94 holdings in last four days.
It has also restored utility services in eight holdings after the owners removed chemicals.
On Tuesday, five teams of DSCC taskforce started drive to evict chemical warehouses and plastic factories from the area in the morning.
A team found plastic raw materials in a building on the Joynag Road at 11am. It disconnected utility services from the seven storied building.
The taskforce team found also another plastic factory on the same road and severed utility lines from the holdings.
The traders then started protest to stop disconnection utility services and demanded more time to shift matterials in a suitable area.
“Plastic raw materials are not inflammable materials. We have right to do business,” said Abdur Rahman, one of the protesters.
The traders said every chemical was not identified as inflammable. The authority identified 29 chemicals as inflammable. But the taskforce is now disconnecting holdings findings any type of chemicals out of the 29.
DSCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Sharif Ahmed Khan led the team at Joynag road.
Four more teams also took part in eviction drives in Agamasi Lane, Urdu Road, Moneswar Road, Hosni Dalan Lane and Awalad Hossain Road of old Dhaka.
Officials from Titas Gas, DPDC, DWASA, Dhaka District Administration, Police were included in the teams.
The drive will continue until April 1.
