Sacked Delhi minister Kapil Mishra on Sunday accused chief minister Arvind Kejriwal of accepting a bribe of Rs2 crore at the latter’s official residence. Elaborating his accusations, Mishra told reporters during a press conference that he had witnessed Delhi’s health minister Satyendra Jain giving the cash to Kejriwal.
Mishra claimed he has informed about the transfer of cash to the Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal earlier on Sunday and that he was ready to
assist any investigations into it. This is the first time that a corruption allegation of accepting illegal money has been made directly against Kejriwal. The allegations gain significance given that the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party, which Kejriwal leads, came out of an anti-corruption movement and promised a clean and transparent government.
“Allegations of corruption had come up during Punjab elections, Delhi government, funding but everyone kept saying that Kejriwal would and never indulge in corruption and that he will act against it. But when I saw it with my eyes that Satyendra Jain gave Rs2 crore in cash to Kejriwal at his residence, I could not stop myself. When I asked Kejriwal where did the money come from, he said he will talk about it at the right time,” Mishra told reporters at a press conference held outside Delhi’s Raj Ghat.
He added that it was ‘human’ to make a mistake but Kejriwal should come out in the open with the truth and people of Delhi have the right to know about it.
Making another potentially damaging accusation, Mishra claimed that Jain had told him that he had settled land deals worth Rs50 crore for Kejriwal’s relatives.
Just two years through its term, the party seems to be imploding from within as senior leaders including Mishra and Kumar Vishwas have revolted in the last one week.
