Staff Reporter :
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmood on Sunday said, it is not a sign of honesty to delay the investigations into allegations of corruption.
“The investigations into corruption charges are not done within the appointed time and the responsible officials will have to pay for the delay,” he said.
The ACC Chairman said this at the a training programme on land management issues for its officers held at the Commission Headquarters on Sunday.
The commission has the power to issue legal directive against any person for information related to the inquiry or investigation,” he said.
“If anyone does not follow this directive, there is a provision of imprisonment or fine or both by filing a case against them,” he said.
“Then why are officials still failing to collect information related to the investigation in scheduled time? The concerned official will have to take responsibility in this regard,” he said.
He said that though some officials make various excuses to hide negligent in their duties, some investigations were completed on schedule.
“Some of them have thousands of excuses to cover up their negligence when they fail to do their duties timely. But our institution has also many talented and honest officials who complete proper investigations on time. What must people think of those who neglect their work? Think of you situation yourself.”
“The ACC has many good workers who conduct their investigations with skill and dedication. Both the plaintiffs and the defendants respect them. But those who are negligent should decide their own position.”
The commission has also given ‘many opportunities for promotion’, the ACC Chief said.
Useful investigations will only result if there is coordination between knowledge, homework and a desire to work, Iqbal Mahmood said.
“And so there is no alternative to training. We send our officials for training both at home and abroad. We will also take steps to monitor the effects of this training on the trainees’ work.”
Thirty ACC officials are taking part in the training programme.
