The government has allocated Tk 22,130 crore for defence services in the proposed budget in the FY 2016-17, up nearly 7 percent year-on-year.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith proposed the allocation for the defence services including other services and the Armed Forces Division, in his budget speech in Parliament on Thursday. According to the proposed allocation,
Tk 21,664 crore was allocated for defence services, Tk 447 for other services and Tk 29 crore for Armed Forces Division. Earlier the government allocated Tk 18,383 for defence services in the FY 2015-16, while it was later revised to Tk 20,694 crore. “Our efforts to improve the capacity and efficiency of army, navy, air force and border guards as well as to modernize them will continue,” the Finance Minister said in his Budget speech.
