The defence lawyers, on behalf of all, 49 accused in the August 21 grenade attack cases yesterday completed their arguments.
After the arguments of former State Minister for Home Lutfozzaman Babar, defense lawyers Advocate Nazrul Islam sought time for placing arguments on law points.
Judge Shahed Nuruddin of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka has fixed September 4 and 5 for placing arguments on law points from both the prosecution and the defence. After the submission, the court will set the delivery of the judgment in the cases.
Both the prosecution and the defence took 113 working days to complete the arguments starting from October 23 last year.
In the grenade attack, twenty-four leaders and activists of the Awami League and its associate bodies were killed and over 300 other leaders and activities suffered splinter injuries.
Ivy Rahman, the then Mohila Awami League President and the wife of late President Zillur Rahman, later, succumbed to her injuries at the Combined Military Hospital of Dhaka.
Later, two cases- one for murder and another for bomb blast were filed with Motijheel Police Station.
During the tenure of the last caretaker government, charge sheets in the two cases were filed against 22 persons, including Abdus Salam Pintu, and Mufti Hannan.
In March 2012, the tribunal framed charges against the accused in the two cases.
