Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam said the defeated forces of 1971 are hatching conspiracy against the country and its democracy. “The BNP-Jamaat has been hatching conspiracy with an evil design to turn Bangladesh into a safe place for militants and communal forces,” he said this on Saturday while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity.
Bangladesh Swadhinata Parishad organised the discussion “Ongoing Politics- Shun Falsehood in Politics’ with its President Zinnat Ali Khan Zinnah in the chair.
The discussion was also addressed, among others, by US Awami League (AL) President Dr Siddiqur Rahman, City AL Organising Secretary Shahe Alam Murad, Member Secretary Shahjahan Ali Saju and General Secretary Fazlul Haque of Bangladesh Swadhinata Parisad.
The minister slammed the BNP and its main ally Jamaat for distorting history and pursuing destructive politics in a bid to destabilise the country.
He bitterly criticized the BNP senior vice chairman and fugitive accused Tarique Rahman for his recent remarks about history.
Quamrul said the BNP- Jamaat hatched conspiracies to destroy the country’s democracy by unleashing a reign of terror in 2013, but the Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina foiled it and saved the nation.
He urged all including workers and leaders of the City Awami League to remain alert against the resurgence of militancy and terrorism of BNP-Jamaat. “We have to protest against the BNP-Jamaat destructive activities,” Quamrul added.
