The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday issued arrest warrant against Bangabir Kader Siddiqui (Bir Uttam), the Chairman of Krishak Sramik Janata League, in a defamation case.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate 2, Ali Masud Sheikh of Dhaka CMM Court, passed the arrest order on Tuesday afternoon as the accused failed to appear in the court for fourteen times.
The court also issued a show-cause notice against the complainant of the case for not being present in the court during previous hearing. The court fixed December 11 for hearing.
Awami League leader and freedom fighter Ruhul Amin Majumder filed the case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court on February 19, 2013.
According to the case statement, Kader Siddiqui at a meeting of Krishak Sramik Janata League held in the Engineers’ Institution of the capital on February 9, said “Trial of the war criminals is impossible keeping a Razakar as the Home Minister”.
Amin Majumder mentioned in his petition that such a comment by Kader Siddiqui is ‘defamatory’ to him as a freedom fighter. On March 18, he secured bail from the court.
