Court Correspondent :A Dhaka court directed the Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Paltan Police Station to submit investigation report in a defamation case filed against BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman and Acting Secretary General of the party Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for “derogatory” comments against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.President of Bangladesh Jono Netri Parishad, AB Siddique, filed the case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Monday morning.Magistrate Md Erfanullah passed the order after hearing the complaint. He asked the OC to investigate the allegations and submit the inquiry report by October 20.The complainant alleged that at a discussion on September 2, Tarique, who has been staying in London since 2008, claimed Ziaur Rahman as the country’s first president. The complaint also says that Tarique addressing a discussion meeting in London on August 24, termed Awami League as a party of ‘disgraceful people’ and Sheikh as the leader of such people. In the complaint, he sought a compensation of Tk five billion. Besides, complainant Siddique alleged that on September 5, BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman ended his March 7, 1971 speech, as saying ‘Joy Pakistan’ and he did not make any announcement for independence, and that was published in different national dailies the following day.”Both (Tarique and Fakhrul) have distorted the history and tarnished the image of Bangabandhu, making the comments,” Siddique said in his complaint.
