The government has taken decision to bring massive modification in water management to overcome the crisis of pure drinking water across the country especially in the capital city Dhaka.
In this regard, the government has taken initiatives to use surface water instead of underground water.
“Government thinks that lack of proper management is the main reason behind the scarcity of drinking water. To overcome the crisis, the water of the Padma and the Jamuna will be distributed among the city dwellers after purification very soon,” Suraiya Begum, Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office said on Wednesday.
She was addressing a prize giving ceremony of ‘National Wash Story Competition -2015’ as the chief guest held at the National Press Club.
Department of Public Health Engineering, Policy Support Unit, World Bank, Oxfam, NGO Forum for Public Health, and Bangladesh Wash Alliance jointly organized the function.
Presided over by country coordinator of Bangladesh Wash Alliance Alok Mazumdar, the function was also addressed by special guests chief engineer of Department of Public Health Engineering Khaleda Ahsan, Wash Specialist of UNICEF Md Shafiqul Alam and executive director of NGO Forum SMA Rashid.
