Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said the decision over quota reform will be known soon.
“No decision was taken at the meeting over quota system but it is in progress. It might happen in the next few days,” said the Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam at a briefing after the Cabinet meeting held at Bangladesh Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
“So far I have heard that the summery of the proposal regarding quota issue has already been sent from the Public Administration Ministry and the decision will be known soon,” he said. Earlier, in the day, quota protesters blocked the Shahbagh intersection, one of the city’s busiest areas, demanding immediate issuance of gazette abolishing quota system in government jobs. Several thousand job seekers, students of different college and universities, brought out a procession from Shahbagh intersection around 11am as part of their scheduled programme.
Meanwhile, an indefinite class and examination boycott programme at colleges and universities across the country is underway as the government failed to publish a gazette abolishing the quota system in government jobs by the timeframe given by quota protestors.
