The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed order on Monday to pronounce its decision on November 2, whether the two charge sheets against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and 37 others in two cases will be taken into cognizance or not.
Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan passed orders in the cases filed for hurling petrol bomb on a passenger bus of Glory
Paribahan in Katherpool area of Jatrabari in the city on January 23 night and the other case filed under the Explosive Substances Act.
Twenty-nine passengers of the bus were burnt in the incident and of them passenger Nur Alam succumbed to his injuries during treatment in Dhaka Medical College Hospital on February 1. The following day, a case was filed with the CMM Court making Khaleda Zia as the mastermind and the prime accused.
On May 6, the Investigation Officer of the case and also a Detective Branch (DB) police Sub-Inspector (SI) Bashir Ahmed submitted two separate charge sheets against 38 persons including Khaleda Zia in both the murder cases and the other filed under Explosive Substances Act to the CMM Court. Arrest warrants were sought against thirty fugitives’, including Khaleda Zia. Of the accused seven including Ruhul Kabir Rizvi are in the chargesheet while another accused is on bail.
Besides, among others BNP Standing Committee members MK Anwar, Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia, Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed, Amanullah Aman, Barkat Ullah Bulu, Vice Chairman Selima Rahman, party Chairperson’s Adviser Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, journalist Shawkot Mahmud, Maruf Kamal and Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas are including in the charge sheets.
Moreover, DB Police Sub-Inspector Zahidul Islam submitted another charge sheet under Special Power Act on May 19. The charge sheets were submitted to the CMM Court on Monday. Eighty-one people were made witnesses in the cases.
