A vicious gang is lurking at different parts of the port city to hoax people with fake golden ornaments which are actually made of bronze. Some pedestrians have lost all their belongings in this way.
Three such gangsters have been arrested by police on Thursday and Friday nights with four bronze bars, ear rings, finger rings, nose rings and a few jewelry cash memos. They were arrested from Mogoltuli and Pahartali areas of the port city, according to police.
Those arrested are Titu (30), Dewan (20) and Afzal Hossain (38). Officer in Charge of Sadarghat Police Station Nizam Uddin told the journalists that these culprits work under the disguise of rickshaw pullers and passersby.
They hand over fake golden bars to people and take away money in exchange deceptively. They also put false seals showing 22 or 21 carets on these bronze bars to make them look like real gold. This gang makes fake cash vouchers too for deceiving people, police have said.
This gang most of the time target naïve women on the roads. The arrested members of the gang have admitted that they have so far committed at least twenty hoaxes in this way.
