“Debi,” the film that brought late writer Humayun Ahmed’s famous character Misir Ali to the silver screen for the first time, is on the track to become a blockbuster and set to be released in 50 more theatres across the country on the third week of its release.
The film’s producer and lead actor Jaya Ahsan made the announcement on a Facebook post on Thursday.
On the second week, it was released in 35 more, she said, adding that the 50 more theatres would screen the movie in the third week, starting from Friday.
She expressed hope that the film would spread throughout the country in the coming weeks.
Initially many distributors had expressed their doubts about the film’s success outside the multiplexes. Many film pundits predicted that general people would not understand “Debi,” hence, it’s futile to show the film in small theatres.
But the film, which earned raving reviews from critiques after its release, is on its way to break the barriers.
Apart from Jaya as Ranu, the film also stars Chanchal Chowdhury as Misir Ali, Sabnam Faria as Nilu, Animesh Aich as Anis and Iresh Zaker as Ahmed.
