Debating Club of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) organized the final round and prize giving ceremony of the three day debate competition for the third time at the International Conference Hall, Rupnagar in the capital on Tuesday. The topic of the debate was ‘The Present Govt. is Firm to Eradicate Corruption’.
Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Md. Fazle Rabbi Mia, MP was present as chief guest and presented the Trophy to the champions and Runners up. At this time, he advised students to be the good citizens and patriots. He said that private universities play vital role to prevent militancy, terrorism and drugs in the country. He also said that we need efficient manpower to operate the government. And only quality higher education can make efficient manpower. Quality education is necessary for eradicating corruption too. In his opinion, present government is active in eradicating corruption. He said that government does not care about the power of network of corrupted people.
The program was attended by the Chairman of BUBT Trust Prof Dr Shafique Ahmed Siddiq as the Special Guest. He said that black money cannot be white. Money from robbery cannot be white. Government should use the term ‘Hidden money’ to represent the money untaxed. The final debate and closing ceremony was chaired by Professor Md. Abu Saleh, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University. He emphasized on youth wave to prevent problems in the country. He said that only bookish knowledge cannot give us the success. Welcome speech was delivered by Prof Mian Lutfar Rahman, Adviser, Students’ Affairs.
The competition was inaugurated by AFM Sarwar Kamal, Member of BUBT Trust on July 6, 2019. After the inauguration, a workshop was conducted by Mr. Amit Das Gupta, Former General Secretary of Dhaka University Debating Society (DUDS) and now a Lawyer of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.
Distinguished guests, Members of BUBT Trust, Treasurer, Advisor, Students’ Affairs, Deans of different faculties, Registrar, Controller of Exams., Joint Registrar, Chairmen of different departments, Proctor, Assistant Proctors, Moderator of Debating Club, officials, teachers and students were present at the program.
In the Debate workshop, about 200 students from 11 departments of BUBT participated.
Immediately after the workshop, a public speaking contest was held where more than 150 students spoke exploring different ideas of two greatest Bengali writers: Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam. Out of all the participating students, 36 speakers were selected to represent 12 teams.
In the first round held on July 7, 6 teams were selected for the second round. Students of the Department of Law, BUBT became the Champion team beating BBA students in the final debate. The best debater crest went to Law student Kotha Mitra.
