Staff Reporter :
An elderly woman died on Saturday at Chattogram Medical Collage Hospital, half an hour after her admission.
Purnima Rani, (55), was taken to the hospital from Feni with breathing problem. Her relatives took her to several local hospitals but no one of them admitted her.
Finally they moved Chattogram Medical Collage Hospital and got her admitted. Half an hour after admission, Purnima Rani breathed her last.
Screaming could not attract health workers and doctors to our relative Purnima Rani, said an attendant. Even we could not know what was the reason that prevented the hospitals to admit her? If the medical negligence like it continues, many patients will die without treatment.
Like Purnima Rani, many patients with respiratory problem are dying across the country after being denied admission in hospitals though the government ordered to ensure treatment to both covid-19 and non-covid patients. But unfortunately hospitals turn back sick people defying government order.
Another pathetic incident occurred in the city’s Mugda General Hospital when a non-covid patient died there being neglected by the doctors and staff of the hospital.
Victim’s family alleged that they waited with the patient for an hour in the ambulance at the gate of the hospital but authority refused admission.
Even the doctors and nurses did not come to see the patient at a glance.
Akter Hossain, a resident of Narayanganj came to city’s Mugda Hospital for better treatment. It was known that victim Akter wasn’t corona patient as his report was negative. But he was a serious patient due to severe shortness of breath.
Firstly he was brought to local hospitals in Narayanganj but none of the hospitals received him.
As a result, Akter was brought to city’s Mugda Hospital by an ambulence, but the hospital authority did not admit him even after waiting for an hour.
Screaming of Akter Hossain and his relatives, couldn’t convince the mind of doctors and staff of the Hospital.
An hour later, at the urging of his relatives and the request of the journalists, the health staff came to see Akter, but he died by then.
After death of Akhter, his wife broke down in tears in the ambulance.
Other patients also complained of medical negligence in Mugda General Hospital.
Even after waiting for hours, doctors and nurses do not visit the patients. Many expressed their displeasure that even the hundreds of requests from the relatives of the patients did not bring the attention of the doctors and nurses.
