The death toll in a fire that broke out at a spinning mill at Nayanpur area under Sreepur upazila of Gazipur district has now risen to six, after five bodies were recovered from the spot on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as: Anwar Hossain, 28, son of Jaynal Abedin, resident of Dhanua village of the upazila, Shahjalal, 26, son of one Hasen Ali, of the same upazila, Salim Kabir, 42, son of Shamsul Haque, of Kaliakoir upazila, Sujan Sarder, 30, son of Keyamat Ali of Pabna and Abu Rayhan, 35, son of Abul Kashem of Mymensingh, our Gazipur correspondent reports quoting Deputy Assistant Director of Gazipur Civil Defence and Fire Service Akhteruzzaman.
However, the charred body of Security Guard Russel Mia was recovered from the spot on Tuesday afternoon.
The officials were clearing out the factory when they recovered the bodies around 12:15pm, the official said.
The fire originated at a unit of Otto Spinning Ltd in Nayanpur area and it soon engulfed other units of the factory, he said.
A total of 18 firefighting units rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after several hours of frantic efforts, according to him.
A six-member probe committee led by District Magistrate Mohammad Shahinur Islam has been formed to investigate the incident, said Deputy Commissioner SM Tarikul Islam.
